I am sure there are better optionsI have been playing guitar for a couple of yers now, so I was looking to use this not for the the lessons (which seemed fine) but rather for the music writing party of it and the feature that helps learn a song looked pretty cool also. The price was cheap, and that should have set off the warning alarm. It came with no instructions, their webpage (which was almost all in German)had a very limited selection of songs to choose from and whats more, you had to pay in order to be able to download songs to learn. The jam room was practically impossible to use due to the fact that there were no instructions whatsoever, and within three days, this piece of junk was off my comp and sitting on a shelf, never to be released again.
Folks, save your cash. Trust me, it’s not worth it. As I have learned, if you want to write your music, paper and pencil work much better than this does.

Unexpected gemWell, I LIKE the fact that you can run it straight from the CD (well OK, you’re *forced* to). Why, exactly, does software have to be ‘installed’, anyway?
That aside, this is an excellent product. I picked it up very cheaply and didn’t expect much, having tried various “teach yourself guitar” CDs before all of which were poor, but this one actually does what it says on the box.
The rather cheesy “flower power” user interface actually works very well; you watch the tutor play the song as the tablature scrolls past, and can easily jump to a lesson on a particular part of the song. Each song is broken down in detail, and you can readily go over and over bits that you’re having trouble with. There’s an nice range of material from easy stuff to the moderately advanced. The arrangements and vocals are pretty good, too.
I’m by no means the world’s no. 1 Beatles fan, but I loved this CD. I strongly recommend it…
If only I could install it…
This might be good if I could install it. It is clearly an old piece of software (says CPU must be 486 or better!? Installer program dated 1996) and it tries to overwrite the system font times.ttf which Windows 98 won’t allow and then fails. The program is no longer mentioned on the ubisoft web site… Do not try to install this. Just start it from the CD… I am a computer professional.
Guitar Hits Volume 2
I thought that this product was superb and have enjoyed learning to play the songs albeit in a limited way at present. If you are looking for a cheap way to learn guitar and have the time to spare to really try at it ( unlike myself) I am sure you could play the songs without much practice. This is not a version for peolpe who can play the guitar as it shows all the basic techniques required to play the songs and even record them. This interactive CD Rom is all I wnated to learn my son a few tunes as well as his old Dad. The songs are timeless and even my son aged 8 recognisd them albeit from listening to Mums Radio 2 on the afternoon school run. I rate this very highly
